Hi, My name was Elaine Adams and I lived on Guam across from Adelup Point in a guonset by a bar called the Kit Kat. This was in 50's probably 1951 to 1958. My brother is Bill Adams. My parents both worked for the Navy. We moved to Apra Heights from our quonset at Adelup point where I also went to school. I don't know much about this site or if anyone will see this, would love to talk to someone who was there when we were. Have always wanted to go back to Guam but doesn't look like it will happen.
My son lives in Guam and has indicated that Pagan is scheduled to be one of the islands used for military training (basically, to be blown up by the US military). He has done camping trips to the island, and I've seen some amazing photography. Pagan has more WWII history than many of the other islands in the area. It's unfortunate that it is being considered to be used for this purpose.
I also was stationed in Guam in the early 70's during the time when the last Japanese soldier was captured. A friend of mine was in the Hospital when they brought him in. I was stationed in Drydock Div.and worked aboard the USS Richland AFDM-8
I remember going down inside of this sub sometime between 1951-54 as a kid when I lived on Guam when my dad was stationed at COMNAVMAR.
The sub had not been restored at that time and it was pretty scary to climb down into.
Thanks for the pictures. Just got back from deployment and didn't have a chance to view or respond in a timely manner. I also have familial involvement in WWII history especially in the Pacific. I am thankful to have been able to see, up close, the before, remains and effects through travel and family in the Pacific Theater.
