This is the City of Melbourne Building Society Building, cnr Elizabeth and Little Collins, built 1888, and isnt it fabulous ? Late Victorian Boom Style whatever you want ot call it. They went bust in the crash of 1893, and the word 'society' was chipped off the facade - cant really se in this pic though.
....barrier reefs indeed, but will they protect the islands of the Pacific? Perhaps, tens of thousands of years ago they wrere dry lands, sadly now submerged under the waves. With ice melting fast in the polar regions, what are the fates of the numerous islets in your foto, Gaiddon. Fiji, though high and fairly mountainous, will they still be here in another ten thousand years? Your guess is as good as mine !! Maciu Vatu.
Hi Gaiddon,
The good 'ole tram is in front of the Arts Centre, approx 2 Worcester street. Not by the Durham Street overbridge, where you put the icon. I'd measure it as 1.15km NNW of where you marked it on Google earth.
Cheers from ChCh.
