I too was stationed at Cam Ranh Bay in 1971. I was assigned to Dusters and we were emplaced just down the beach where there were slabs of concrete and tin covers. We stayed there for several months...allegedly guarding the beach (AF Officers Beach) from the Viet Cong. Anyway I walk past this bunker so many times. We all thought it was left over from the French occupation...never thought about Japanese. Anyway, I don't think it was American made as I never saw anything like it anywhere else in Vientnam. When I was there I don't think ANYBODY would want to Party there as it was spooky inside and not to mention what else was in there.
