I was born and raised (reared) in Stockton. I have a lot of fond memories of growing up there, but unfortunately, I couldn't recommend it for someone who didn't grow up there. It's become a place of high crime, low employment opportunities, mediocre (at best) schools, miserable summers and dreary winters. One of the highest foreclosure rates in the country, it's now declared bankruptcy. There's a reason it was listed by Forbes magazine as one of the most miserable cities in the U.S.
