This photo was taken from Neskowin just north of Proposal rock. Because I used my telephoto lens, it appears that I am much closer. I am actualy several miles away from Haystack rock as depicted in Google Maps.

highly visable in the winter of 2008 but now it is buried again. We were there again in September of 2009 and none of the stumps are visable. The winter storms are likely to change the topographical features again and again.

The lake actually raises and lowers 119 feet every year. If you look at some of my recent photos, you can see what it looks like in the winter. I took aerial photos of this area on February 3, when the lake was at it's lowest point. Now it is filling up for the season.

If try and anchor here near the shore to swim in the summer, you now know why your anchor never seems to hold. It rolls straight down the hill to the middle.

This is looking towards blowout which is a penninsula in the winter. This is covered by 30 feet of water in the summer months and becomes a hazard when the water elevation reaches 1530. Named blowout for the windy conditions in the afternoon. Water elevation in this photo is 1457.

This photo is looking SE towards piety Island and Kanes Marina. Please look at the other photos of Detroit Lake. You can search in tags for "Detroit Lake Oregon".

This has been the winter time boat ramp for Detroit Lake for many years. AS you can see it is primative and fairly flat. This is under 80 feet of water during full pool. Seen here at a water elevation of 1457.
