A good picture for the Aerial firefighting group !

The winter of 2008 brought the biggest snow that anyone can remember. Over 15 feet fell between December 1, 2007 and Febuary, 2008. There was so much snow that they ran out of room to pile it up on the side of the streets. Detroit was declared to be in a state of emergency and they brought in trucks to help haul away some of the snow. A few roofs and several decks were destroyed by the record snow fall. It snowed over 14 inches in a 24 hour period and it just kept coming, day after day.

highly visable in the winter of 2008 but now it is buried again. We were there again in September of 2009 and none of the stumps are visable. The winter storms are likely to change the topographical features again and again.

thanks for putting it up! the picture, the portapotty is no fun to go in

seen those before up there, have you seen the parachuter with the prop on the back?

Right to the cabins!! Get a good one of the tiki on the second one, now it is wrapped up

The lake actually raises and lowers 119 feet every year. If you look at some of my recent photos, you can see what it looks like in the winter. I took aerial photos of this area on February 3, when the lake was at it's lowest point. Now it is filling up for the season.

If try and anchor here near the shore to swim in the summer, you now know why your anchor never seems to hold. It rolls straight down the hill to the middle.

This is looking towards blowout which is a penninsula in the winter. This is covered by 30 feet of water in the summer months and becomes a hazard when the water elevation reaches 1530. Named blowout for the windy conditions in the afternoon. Water elevation in this photo is 1457.

This photo is looking SE towards piety Island and Kanes Marina. Please look at the other photos of Detroit Lake. You can search in tags for "Detroit Lake Oregon".
