Mohanmap, you couldn't be more wrong. These stumps have been bleached of all color by the steam and hot mineral waters of the nearby geysers. The red and orange colors are layers of bacterial "thermophiles," which have evolved to draw food and energy from the mineral hot waters in which they live.
