Yes, this is a very impressive Island I had the pleasure of being there 5 seperate times living there for a month at one of the visits and chartering a 85'yatch along with chartering a Lockeed loadstar which had crashed landing in a rain storm. My purpose going there was to creat and a build a world class sports fishing resort. this was back in the mid 70's.
Flying into Wake on C-141's from 1971 through 1976, we would always bring in a couple of coffee cans of dirt from Hickam to help create the greens. Naturally, with the island only 8 feet above sea level, any major storm washed the attempts away.
A lot of good storys are comming up now in rememerence, about this canon, the Beach and Leftovers from Wartime, maybe should write some time about it.- If someone is able to make some contact to the former Crewmembers of the Cap Frio
from 1968 ( all older Fellows now) I would be pleased

That dome was made of cement and contaminated soil from all the other Ilands. Plus any other contaminated matter that was found.
