This really big guy had his small pool all to himself and was busy cleaning out all of the gars. A few minutes before this photo was taken he lunged at a Great Blue Heron. He missed and the heron was greatly annoyed. This year's (2011) drought has concentrated the gators and their prey so there is a lot of fighting over territory and hunting activity.
I wish we were back on Trail Ridge again this summer. It's about 50 or 60 degrees cooler there than it is at home and the view is a whole lot more interesting. I'm glad you like the photos. Thanks!
It was a surprise shot. The alligator scared them and they started to run.
The name of the park is "Sugar Land Memorial Park." It is a nice little park.
Yes, the 400mm is a lot nicer than the old 75-300mm zoom I used to take the photo on Dec 26 when the chick was brand new. I just bought the lens and am having a lot of fun with it.
Did you get a photo? Did they have chicks again? Thanks for the update.
Greg, thanks for the position update. The new satellite photo shows the combines quite plainly. The old one did not.
Is this halftrack an M2? The truck bed looks shorter than the beds on the M2s I've seen in photos. It's too small to be an M3 halftrack.
