This Channel, managed by SWFWMD is closed to canoes and kayaks. Thus it makes a tough portage to canoe from the lake to the river below the spillway. Something should be done to correct this.
Site lights illuminate the dam on the bypass, a waterway designed to regulate water levels on the cross florida barge canal. The ambitious project would have created a shortcut for commercial and recreational boat traffic across the middle of Florida. The project was cancelled in the early 1970's due to environmental concerns.

Location on map is actually location of Cave Hill. Stoneface is further south, nearer to Sommerset.
