Bodie is a ghost town in the Bodie Hills east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Mono County, California, about 75 miles southeast of Lake Tahoe at an elevation of 8379 feet. As Bodie Historic District, the U.S. Department of the Interior recognizes it as a National Historic Landmark. The ghost town receives about 200,000 visitors yearly.
Built in 1864, the year in which the primary purpose of the Fort shifted from defense of the mouth of the East River to casualty support and hospital care, the facility served the Army in various capacities until 1974, when it was emptied and abandoned.

Located in Delray Beach, Florida, the park was created on 50 acres of unused utility land, and transformed into a recreation wetlands with a three-quarter mile boardwalk that crosses between open water pond areas, emergent marsh areas, shallow shelves, and islands. Over 151 species of birds have been spotted inside the park. The park is also home to turtles, alligators, frogs, otters, and raccoons.
Hart Island is said to be a ghost town with an abandoned church, asylum, and military base. The military base has Nike missile silos left over from the late 50′s and the cold war. It is also the home of NYC's Potters Field. There are now over 700,000 bodies buried on Hart Island. It is located where the East River meets Long Island Sound.
The gun battery was built during the Civil War to help protect NYC. Construction was halted when it was discovered that the construction materials used would not stop the new cannons carried on the Confederate ships. The original plan was to build a four level battery. Only two levels were completed.

Hwy 4 is a great drive any time, but a lot of fun on the 2nd Saturday of September when they celebrate "Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway" between Markleeville and Arnold!
