A native of Leeds, I moved to the Vale of York in 1983. I spent my working life in chemistry, latterly with the Environment Agency, and retired in 2007.
I have enjoyed hill-walking since the age of 5 and have a life-long interest in railways. These give a focus to my other main interest which is photography. I now also spend some of my time driving trains on two local miniature railways.

Hi Amelia Thanks it was its first visit to the Moors line after it long overhaul at Riley`s at Bury on the East Lancs Railway.Best wishes Alan.
Hi Alan, It is indeed good to see it running again, it has been a long wait. I had a ride behind it from Pickering to Grosmont on Friday on the gauging test run and it was very interesting to hear what the Riley's workshop staff on the train said about it. Best wishes, Dave
Thank you Christos, This came towards the end of a wonderful holiday spent exploring the fjords, with plenty of warm sunny days and many photo opportunities. I didn't expect to be tempted to swim in a fjord, but in the warm weather the beautifully clear water was very inviting. I swam in the Hardanger Fjord on 3 afternoons and thoroughly enjoyed it.

My great-great-grandfather managed the original Adelphi Hotel on this site some time between 1839 and 1847. The original was demolished and the present building was erected about 1900.
