I can recommend Wengen for a walking holiday - no traffic, access by train only, good hotels, incomparable mountains and most people speak at least some English! The weather can be a bit uncertain, though, as in most mountain areas.

this is looking at cross fell on the right, from the top of killhope (killhope head?)the weather station above moorhouse is on the left.

These photos illustrate the retreat of the glaciers during the 35 years I have been visiting the Bernese Oberland.

I mistakenly described this loco as a Shay, but I now realise that the arrangement of the cylinders, etc. follows the Heisler design. Heislers, though, have external coupling rods on the bogies. Does anyone know whether a prototype exists for the transmission used on Owl?
