I do volunteer restoration work aboard the USS Texas and wanted to point out that this is not a torpedo. (BB-35's torpedo rooms were removed in the 1925-27 rebuild) This is a paravane; it was attached to the bow section with cable and dragged off to the side of the ship. This was done to snare sea mines.
