The red brick building to the right in this picture is Queen Anne House, 143 Fleet ST. In 1962, I used to live on the top floor free of rent in exchange for my services as care taker, for Silverthorn Investments.
I could look down on the glass roof above the kitchen of Ye Old Cheshire Cheese. One day I noticed they were doing some interior renovations and were throwing out a large Ottoman sofa and other "junk" upon inspection I found some old magazines, carefully wrapped in brown paper. Upon examination these magazines turned out to be the complete original works of Dickens before he consolidated them into book form, as his books were originally in episode form. The Ottoman was too big for me to handle and probably went to the land fill.
During my four year stay, the ownership of the property changed several times without my knowledge, until one day there was a knock at the door and the new owners who were inspecting the property introduced them selves, and politely asked me to think about vacating the property.
