These are bomb crates, used to transport inert bombs to the base.
I have seen similar ones near the WW2 airstrips around Port Moresby.
The larger, fatter one looks like a 500lb ( ~227kg) bomb, as carried by the
B24 Liberators operating from Corunna Downs in 1942-1943.
The strip was built in late 1942.
