This is the replica of Mormon Station, the town name that predated "Genoa." Mormons settled here for a few years to supply the people who were emigrating via covered wagons [Conestoga wagons] to California and were preparing to travel over the Sierra Nevada [mountains] to descend on the California side to Sacramento and other places.

This is a volunteer fire department. To the right you see the side of the old Genoa Courthouse, which is now a museum.
