Hi there!

I'm the operator at the Grist Mill and I can answer this question. In fact, the lower timbers are a different colour because they're newer. In the 1980's, a significant amount of resoration work had to be done on the mill to help preserve it and many of the lower timbers (as well as the foundation) had to be replaced. We did our best to replace things as exactly as we could, but you really can't match a hundred years of weathering.

Actually Tom, winter finally let go its grip in early April. Green grass, leaves on the trees... it's looking a lot like summer right now :-)
