This shows the mangroves which grow on the mud washed down during the past hundred years or so. Our older folk remember many sandy beaches along the inner harbour, but livestock in waterways, deforestation and run-off of fertiliser have produced the present situation.
Anyone contemplating suicide should fly to Queenstown,catch the bus to "The Shelter".A 2 hour trip ,and walk The beautiful Routeburn Track.The scenery is just stunning.The experience is mindblowing.I walked it at 60.in Dec.2007.Get a bit fit first.Dont rush,stay a night in each hut.Be prepared,correct boots ,clothing and food.Camera and torch.A lifetime must do for all kiwis.Cheers Wharemaster.P.NORTH.
