This photo was taken looking west on 58th st. between 10th & 11th avenues. The dominant feature of this photo is the stack for the ConEd W59th St. Generating station. This is the only steam generating station on the west side of Manhatten and serves the world's largest steam distribution system,
This statue is called "Peace" by the sculptor Beniamino Bufano. He created 50 sculptures called "Peace" but I have yet to find out where the rest of them are located. There is a sister statue located along Brotherhood Way in San Francisco, same motif, but made of metal.
