Children espy girls have to do hard labour. They need to fetch the water, do the field work, care for siblings - there is not much time for education and playing. They get married very early sometimes only 12 or 14 years old.
Where there is no electricy and piped water, good old tradition needs to be followed. A piece of soap, an old tree trunk, some sunshine and labour and patience is need to finish the laundry at the small creek. By the way the whole village comes down and do the laundry and bathing here.
The orphanage was founded by Ella and Archie Haller in 1939. They passed difficult years in the civil war. Her daughter Geneva took over from her parents and died in 1996 with the age of 66. Some Christian Organisations from US, Germany and Belgium have supported the orphanage financially and by sending personal. In 1997 ca. 100 orphans were taken care off. The unstable conditions and political turbulences put a lot of pressure on the ministry. The children have been always suffering from common diseases and hunger.
In one class you find children in the age of 6-12 years, sometimes more than 50 in a class. The children must help to build their own classrooms. Often they are forced to do other labour.

Digging a fish pond is very hard manual labour. Mostly small tilapias are raised in the ponds.
