I guess there are a lot of misconception, nostalgia and romanticism about these timber framed jettied ["jumba'li"] urban vernacular terrace houses amongst visitors and residents alike.
If you are looking for a more or less “authentic” building [probably mid C.19 or later?] the only one in this photograph is probably the fifth, the grey coloured two storey building on the right. The rest of the buildings seem to have been altered extensively over ground floors at least over first floors.
Are they aesthetically not pleasing? It will be easier to answer this question if we find and compare a prototype “authentic” building with these ones to see what we have been missing or what we have gained with recent developments.
