TanManCBK's conversations

The great mountaineer Conrad Kain is buried in the Cranbrook Cemetary.Famous in Canadian mountaineering for being the first to climb to the summit of the Canadian Rockies highest peak-Mt Robson. His climbing skills and accomplishments are legendary in Canadian mountaineering with many first ascents and skills that pushed the limits of climbing in his day.

Thyme, dianthus and roses frame the gazebo at the historic Cominco Gardens in Kimberley B.C.

The Cominco Gardens is a popular location for tying the knot amidst the colourful flowers

Very few visitors come to the gardens in winter when the snows are piled over a metre in depth burying everything under a cold thick white blanket.

Surrounded by a canopy of mature trees, the Cominco Gardens in Kimberley are even more spectacular when the maple and native tamarack(larch)trees display their fall colours.

Mule deer abound in Kimberley B.C. and can be a terrible nuisance to gardeners eating anything in reach.Staff will let tourists take pictures but then have to chase the pesky critters away. After tourist season is over(mid September)they are allowed to eat whatever they please, once the fencing comes off the memorial roses they strip every leaf and bud right down to the thorns!

Another East Kootenay sunrise explodes above the Rocky Mountains.

Lakit Lookout is one of the most popular hikes in the Cranbrook area.It sees hundreds of visitors each year and has spectacular views of the southern Rocky Mountain Trench,Purcell and Rocky mountains.Perched high on a ridge above the Kootenay River this de-activated fire lookout can be reached via a moderate hike and is highly recomended. If you can-stay overnight, take the shutters off and feel like you are flying in a plane with the lights twinkling in the valley below! On one overnight stay our crew witnessed the following:sunset, moonrise, shooting stars,a comet, lightning in a thundershower across the valley, the Aurora Borealis(northern lights)and the Milkyway brilliantly splattered across the sky!Amazing! I have also tuned in radio stations as far away as Texas!

Mock Orange thrives in the Wild Horse River canyon and emmits a strong sweet aroma when in bloom.

On the way to work and this unfolded in the rearview mirror.I simply had to stop and take a picture from above Marysville on the Fertilizer road.Sunrises and sunsets like this one are common in the Rocky Mountain Trench.
