fgillings's conversations

I note that the pen and cob reared six cygnets that year. Can you say which year that was? This year 2011 has been disastrous. The resident pair hatched four eggs after a dreadful winter on the lake for them. Unfortunately all but one of the cygnets have been taken by dogs and to date, mid September, one orphaned cygnet remains on the lake as to all appearances, the adult pair have fallen victim to dogs. Sadly, uncaring and arrogant dog owners refuse to heed the signs and put their dogs on a lead near the lake.

Sorry to be pedantic but this is Winlaton Mill not Rowlands Gill. It's a lake built in the old Winlaton Mill Ironworks, it couldn't be more specific. 1.5 miles is 1.5 miles! We had to put up with the Cokeworks for 70 years and our ancient village was demolished in the name of progress. At least lets have our name now.
