This picture is not mapped exactly: I don't remember the name of the street. These little streams are all over the place in Freiburg. As an Englishman, I can't help but imagine the panic they would cause to the Health and Safety fanatics who have taken over in Britain. The Germans seem to survive them, though.

The story goes that if you count the steps going down to the chapel, then count them again coming up, the numbers will not be the same. Every summer there are streams of people clambering up and down the steps with their lips moving silently...

The viewpoint for this photograph is in such a potentially dangerous place that a platform with a safety rail has been provided. It would be nice to photograph it from a different angle (one that does not appear on all the postcards!) but until I learn to hover in mid-air, I will have to stick with this.

I am told that 'elegug' is Welsh for guillemot. In spring this stack (and the one next to it) are covered in nesting birds, including guillemots.
