This is where I l post photos of parts of the UK,mainly of the East Midlands of England where I live and work. There are some historic and occasionally important structures. In amongst the Churches, pubs, other interesting buildings and landscapes for GE there is the occasional different photograph. Others can be found at.... ♫Russ Hamer on flickr... I have a flooring shop in Derby... Carpet Square... you are welcome to visit. In fact you could run it whilst I go out and take advantage of the light I am missing stuck there!!!

This ancient cross is on a busy A607 road between Melton and Leicester well in the countryside. There appears to be nothing of significance nearby though another old footpath crosses the road here. Wiki tells that the original Melton to Leicester road led through Frisby on the Wreak some half a mile to the north but was turnpiked in the 18th century. I assume it was good of the road builders to ensure its survival. Wiki also suggests the cross, clearly much older, was a preaching place. If anyone can throw some light on this I would be interested.

Proof that blue and green can be seen together. I love the contrasting colours.

Christ Church, erected 1880. Unexceptional apart from having the tower/spire at the East end. Though I can't speak for the interior as I have never been inside.... despite working only a few hundred yards away.

He was a blacksmith and publican and had moved here from The Durham Ox (Six hills) which then stood on the opposite side of the road to the current (Wild Ox) hotel. There he ran the Smithy whilst Grandma served the beer. He died when my mum was very young, so there is not a great deal of info.

Old coaching house very familiar view.

This brook runs, mostly cultivated, through the city from the east to meet the Soar. Take a look at this brilliant review of an urban concrete way.

Thanks for that. Have changed title accordingly.

The sky is worth note. This is at the height of the Iceland Volcano ash cloud above the UK.

Beautiful shot. VOTED Greetings from Germany, Mario
