There were several dozen of these huts here in the past, used mostly as Army barracks. I lived in one for about 20 months, while they were building new, modern barracks for us elsewhere. They were cold in the Winter and blazing hot in the Summer. When they fired off the main Saturn 5 booster engine on a static test stand, many miles away, the shock and sound waves turned the aluminum shell into a giant speaker diaphragm and we were flushed outside, to escape. I doubt anyone would have survived, if they'd remained inside.
I was with the 137th Ordinance, 1965-1966 as a guard and sentry dog handler. NCOIC's were Sgt Harker and Sgt Croft, other people were Holland, Fisher, Watson, Riley and Walde.
I guarded the gate down by the back fence, on the beach in summer 1963. I was with G-2-3, 3rd platoon. Had some fun, but also had some not so fun times.
Thanks for the kind comments. I'm not familiar with the boat house. Perhaps it was built after I left there in 1969.
There are more photos of the 137th on Roy's web site at http://www.panoramio.com/group/78552. He served with me as head of security.
My Dad was at that same place back in 1954. He called it Camp Fuji. He was the CG's driver. I have a BW picture somewhere that looks almost identicle to this one.
