You'd think, Si-Pics of the world, that if you were of Manchester,
you would know what the Hanging Ditch Bridge meant,
and you wouldn't mess with it.
Thanks for this pic,
and for reminding me of that arch.
OK, in 1660 and following, the only way to get rid of your privy stuff was to throw it off the bridge in hours of darkness,
but then you would, wouldn't you.
All the more reason for not letting it disappear.
You may be thinking this is a bad picture, but it really did look like this seeing Blackpool through a haze of rain. After a while you could not even see this.
I used to live in this area, played in it as a child, and had many friends here. Its all gone now, along with many of the houses these friends lived in and grew up in. And the work on undoing generations is still going on with what else is left of the area. For all the bad things the press gives you Higher Broughton, I miss you. You are a true community lost

Yes, in the middle of the bridge is a heron.
The confluence of the Irwell(the left of the picture) and Croal(on the right).
The Irk makes its final journey into underground Manchester. Its end is near.
Follow the sunset from the left, around the centre of the picture you can see the Power Station with its cooling towers in action.

Its best to look at this when clicked on. Blackpool Tower and The Big One are left of the pier end, along the horizon. It was not a good day.
Nice day, bad pollution haze over Manchester.
This is exactly how I remember this view in 2007, blue sky and all.
