On top of the plinth, there used to be a man struggling to carry an obelisk slightly bigger than himself.
It was my favourite work of art in Bristol and, even as a pacifist, I'd have happily shot the morons who stole it for scrap metal.

I've been extensively researching the Yeamans family in Bristol and knew about this brewery. I was a little flabbergasted when looking at Bristol recently on Google Earth with all the new building going on. But was saddened to see the old building that seemed like a big feature shaping the bend of the Avon River. I thought the brewery would be refurbished into offices rather than just destroyed and losing another piece of Bristol's building history to "improved" development. What a shame. Shame on the Bristol City Council.
