According to a plaque mounted on the lighthouse, a photo of which I will send to Panoramio shortly, Robert Louis Stevenson built the lighthouse which was designed by his father. Note that the plaque states "designed by my father" not "built by my father".
It may be that the lighthouse was built by others and just dedicated by RL Stevenson. There is no implication that the father had built it.
