My grandfather Jacob 'Tommy' Berg built an estate nearby in the 1920's. Pulman carriages were £24 delivered by horse and cart. A 1st class saloon carriage were little more. One of them is now 110 years old. There were no 'services', so rainwater was caught in large corrugated cylinders, cesspits were dug, and paraffin was used for cooking and heating. Army huts from Aldershot camp and hospital. Most properties were sold for about £200 and a ground rent was charged. Some are now changing hands for about £300,000! the beach was littered during the war with shot-down German Aircraft.
