Hello Roger, Having done a bit of research, let can tell you that the Esperance tanker jetty is actually 670 metres long! It was built of timberin 1935 and serviced ships collecting grain and delivering oil. It fell into disuse in 1977 and has several times been close due to its dangerous condition. It is view locally as iconic, has had its repair financed by charitable organisations & was open when I visited in 2013. There seems to be local discussion of a replacement. I can find no reference as to why it is curved. Given its Given its length, maybe the curve was designed to resist the tide.
