This is looking at Lake Diablo not Ross Lake. The view is indeed from Sourdough but is looking more or less east into Thunder Arm of Lake Diablo. The road seen crossing the lake is by the Colonial Creek campground. The Peak at the top right is Colonial Peak. My grandfather built the Sourdough trail for the Forest Service about 1910. The contract required it to be passable by pack horses. That is why is climbs so relentlessly. Were the grade more moderate it would be twice as look. Cheers.
