Will never forget the most notorious pub/nightclub there! "The Jungle" (Northumberland Arms) And you can also see The Chain Locker. This picture must have been taken outside the Porthole Pub. My favorite boozer. :-) Bjorn

The canniest place with the friendliest people in Northumbria! We have many good friends here and have been to the thursday quiz many times. Arthur and Lillian owned the Porthole for many years, they still live next door. The present owner is Mike Read from Whitley Bay. Bjorn

Whey maan Mike. Aa scored with a bord from Gyetshid ages agoo and spent the summer in Whitley Bay. :) Arthur and Lillian who used to own the Porthole sold it to Mike Read from Whitley bay some years ago, but they still live next door. Behind the white door seen in the picture. If you have ever tried to travel from Bergen, Norway, where I live, to the Eastern part of Norway, especially in wintertime, you will understand why we Crossed the North Sea and raided you lot instead. Far easier:) It is a pity the DFDS closed the ferry from Bergen to Newcassell. We have had ferry routes to Newcastle since 1890. I sincerely hope another company will start it again. We have so many canny marras in the area. Bjorn
