Jenny, When was this taken? I was up at Obudu in April 1983. A narrow but paved 12 km road went up there then. I rode my motorbike up, camped out overnight someplace off of the road, then coasted down the next morning. Engine off. What a glorious ride it was! Rick

Yes, Jaimeno, this is on the Eastern side of Vaseaux Lake looking south toward Oliver which, as best I can remember, is a good 7-8 kilometers south. Try to re-fix your image further north.

Ahh, yes! The ubiquitous check points. Only in 1981-83 when I was there most of these were conducted and manned by the Nigerian National Police. Blue uniforms. This looks like the an army checkpoint.

This highway has changed much since I was there in 1981 - 83. At that time this was a two-lane road with very little beside it. Abuja was just being built. Zuma Rock was as impressive then as in this photo.

I was in Kribi in April, 1982. Kribi was just a little backwater town then. WAY off the beaten track. Nothing like this existed at that time. I had travelled down from Nigeria, two of us, on our small motorbikes. What an adventure! And a long ways from Canada.

NICE! I have been living in this area for 11 years and have explored many places around here but only yesterday did I go up to Paul Lake. It was a nice drive from Pritchard to Paul Lake to Kamloops via the backroads. I understand that this lake is quite crowded in the summer. Very few people there on Sunday, October 26, 2008 Good job catching this rainbow.

John, This looks like the hotel that I stayed at during Christmas 1982. There was only one main hotel right on the lagoon at that time as far as I remember. It was run by a Frenchman. I have no photos from this time but many pleasant memories. Thanks for this image. Rick

December 28, 1981 We left my place in Nasarawa this morning and headed to Guarra Falls. Look at the other images that people have posted about this famous Inselberg. Notice that 25 years ago this was just a TWO LANE highway. It was newly paved. Very little settlement around the highway at that time. The new capital, Abuja, was just getting started.

April 28, 1982 On the road somewhere. NOT a happy camper! And this was only about 4 hours into the, eventually, 11 hour ride that day. See other image - Leaving Kribi.

April 28, 1982 Leaving Kribi going east to Ebolowa and then to north Yaunde. This was the beginning of the roughest, most exhausting motorbike ride I ever did. The route that day was Kribi to 15 kms or so south of Mbalmayo. We went 285 km in 11 hours and then we wound up camping beside the road just 4 kms from pavement. My biking buddy had her bike pushed the last kilometre or so by two Cameroonians. The road was being rebuilt and it was wet and slick like grease.
