The Old Adaminaby Cemetery sits on the eastern banks of Lake Eucumbene. The cemetery contains the graves of many of the regions pioneers and dates back to the late 1800's.
It almost looks inviting enough for a quick dip! BUT... winter at Lake Eucumbene is COLD!!! This photo (taken on 8 July 2006) shows the lake looking towards the NSW ski fields. The lake was at 24.4% of capacity and for those still contemplating a dip - the air temp (despite the sunshine) when this photo was taken was just 6.6 degrees C).
Providence Portal - in the northern end of Lake Eucumbene - is a great place to fish but, with the current low water levels (15% of capacity in May 2008)there is no water in this section of the lake. In fact, Providence Portal has now been 'dry' since early 2005. The only water currently running through the Portal is the Eucumbene River. This is in the centre of this photo.
As the waters of Lake Eucumbene continue to receed, old secrets are being revealed! This photo shows the foundations of the old Convent at Adaminaby. On this day (30 March 2006) the lake level was down to 41% of capacity.
