google earth images relating to the previous comment have since been updated, so you'd need to check previous versions to see the bypass simply ending in a paddock. However, the two sections of road that don't line up along the riverbank to the south-east are still visible.

This is actually the old Princes Hwy bridge remnants. The original rail bridge is the one still in use.

I understand that fires destroyed the line more than once. This bridge happens to be the one that survived of the several large ones between Nayook and Noojee. The line was later cut back to Nayook. All before my time, but I've read up on the line's history.

After climbing many, many steps up the mountain to a footbridge, I was suitably rewarded for my effort by the unexpected sight of this train heading down to Chaoping station to collect a load of sleepers.

This section of line normally only sees passenger trains that run pre-dawn for sunrise viewing, returning shortly after the event.
