Jackie Gausvik - Have you used the Norwegian archives to research the genealogy prior to arriving in the US?? This is a very useful site to obtain accurate information on your relatives. Recently, one of the individuals identified above has emailed and provided very useful insight into the family. My grandfather was born Nils Bertheussen in 1870 in northern Norway. There is no record that he came through Ellis Island - the last official Norwegian record is his travel to the UK in 1893 (under his birth name). The next info is from records in North Dakota where he married and bought land.
