There are numerous blue holes in the islands of the Bahamas. They are all connected to the ocean. Most of them have fresh water at the top (fed by rain) with salt water deep down (fed by the sea). On Andros, this particular Blue Hole has been explored and there are graphs showing hight of the caves and the depth into the earth. Small Hope Bay Resort has some interesting literature about this blue hole.
