Sehr schönes Foto. In den Bergen unterwegs zu sein, ist immer ein besonderes Erlebnis, finde ich ...

Very nice photo L+F
This is the MacArthur Bridge. It was opened in 1917 to auto traffic only. Railroad traffic began on the lower deck in 1928. It was originally known as the St Louis Municipal Bridge but was renamed in 1942 to honor General Douglas MacArthur. Closed to auto traffic in the early 1980s, the bridge now carries trains from Union Pacific, BNSF and Amtrak.
Hi, it wasn´t closed yet in 2005, but the owner said he would give up. We have been there twice (1999 and 2006)driving the US40 in both directions. You are right, the guy was nice.
Klaus, as a native New Jerseyan I can say - this is more like city "unplanning". During the 1960-80's, this area became known as "Paulines Prairie". Named for City Housing Director Pauline Hill, and her vision of "Urban Renewal". The thought process behind it was that vacant land would be worth more to developers then the neighborhood that once occupied the land. As you can see, this theory was wrong - and the neighborhood, along with the rest of Atlantic City (outside of the casinos) sadly continued to decline.
If you would like, search "Paulines Prairie Atlantic City" on Google, and you should find some good information, more then I can provide in this post. Hope this helps.
