The dam was started in 1957 and completed in 1960. The sink holes were not able to be successfully plugged. The dam itself is in excellent shape and is well built. The reservoir still holds water for irrigation for part of the summer, but that's it. As far as an analysis goes, they knew that the ground had fissures and holes during the construction. Also, it seems that the local Indians told the Bureau of Reclamation (BR) that the ground wouldn't hold water. But the BR didn't think they knew what they were talking about. Apparently, they did.

There are a number of routes to the top. We took a pretty easy one because of my experience (or lack thereof). We even saw a chipmunk on top.
