This old trunk, as you call it, was called the "Umbrella Tree". As I hear, it was the place to go to make out, lovers lane kinda thing back in the 40s, 50s, maybe later. I'll bet there are a lot of locals that were conceived under it's branches...

I hope your recollections of working at Dick's were good ones. A lot has changed since this photo was taken, and not just the breaking the $1 mark for a gallon of gas or introduction of "unleaded". I worked the Mobil on Burnsville Parkway a few years after this shot, while we were still manning the full-service line, assisting folks on the self-service line, all while trying to get work done in the service bays.
