As I was reading Last of the Donkey Pilgrims the author mentioned seeing the word "EIRE" spelled out on a grassy knoll in Donegal. This was to tell the German bombers in WWII that this land was the neutral Republic of Ireland (not Northern Ireland). Your photo captured some of the letters ..IRE on the distant hill.
