This bothy is in the middle of no-where. It has a very comfortable upper floor complete with log fire. Home from home.

This is one of the most accessible potholes in the dales and quite a significant feature. Although it is only 100 yards from the main footpath leading up Penyghent most people walk straight past it without even realising it is there. Well worth seeking out if you are planning a walk up the hill.

The big drop is through the small eye hole at the far end of this picture, a clear drop of 220 feet (geater than Malham Cove). A cool mist can sometimes be seen rising out of the eye hole, a sinister indication of the depths below. As with most potholes in the dales there are no fences around them so please take care when you are near them.

A long way from home (Yorkshire, UK) we were making the journey between Alice Springs and Kings Canyon on the Larapinta 4x4 road and decided to take a slight deviation down a very rough track which took us along a dried up river bed and eventually brought us to a place called Palm Valley. Grandma stayed with the Jeep whilst we went to explore. About an hours walking through this lush valley of palms brought us to the small lagoon where I took this picture. It was an oasis in an otherwise desert landscape and had quite a sense of isolation, my girls loved the place. We now have the large palm leaves they can be seen here using for shade on our lounge wall back in Yorkshire as a reminder of our adventure.

Culag woods is a nature reserve near Lochinver. There are trails through the woods and lots of interesting features are described along the way. This picture is the bog. You can only imagine what is lurking in its murky depths. A guide to the woods can be picked up from the car park on the road to Inverkirkaig. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

The stream is flowing out of the cave entrance. It is the water from Calf Holes, a little pot hole about half a mile further up the hillside.
