This is the Yorkshire Air Museum which started out in 1984 as part of the old WW2 derelict RAF airfield known as Elvington. It was gradually developed into what you see today. The majority of this work was carried out by volunteers. The replica Halifax bomber was built right here by volunteers and used many genuine parts. It is now the only one of two specimens in the world, the other being in Canada. Most credit must go to Ian Robinson MBE whose idea it was to construct it. He was also responsible for the erection of the T2 hangar that now houses both it and many more aircraft. I played a supporting role in developing the museum where I was the co-ordinator.
