Nice photo. I had breakfast at the Angus a couple of years ago. Had very good grits I recall. I'm surprised that they are open after dark; I thought the Angus was strictly a breakfast and lunch joint, a classic "greasy spoon"!

Fayetteville Street is downtown Raleigh's main commercial corridor. It was reopened to car traffic after an unsuccessful experiment as a pedestrian only mall. This same process has occured in a number of other U.S. cities. Pedestrian only streets seem to work mostly in small towns with large student populations (e.g. Burlington, VT, Ithaca, NY, and Charlottesville, VA). North Carolina's capitol city is a prome example of a booming southern city.

The VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) is an excellent example of an urban university well integrated into the surrounding city fabric.

The Fan: a magnificent urban residential neighborhood just west of downtown Rchmond. This is East Grace Street near Davis Street.

Downtown Troy reminds one of what American cities looked like prior to their destruction for the sake of the car culture (aka: "Urban Renewal").
