This school used to be the old famous and respected Arabic School of Daeratul Maarif Alwataniah whereby muslim students from as far as southern Thailand and Southern Perak to the south came to study Islamic subjects. The students bought a small wooden hut behind this building for their stay while studying here and at night you can hear their hummings as they memorise their daily lessons.I was one of them. The late grand father of the fifth Prime Minister of Malaysia was the establisher of this school. With the nationalisation of the Malaysian education system the role of this school subsided and I believe taken over by the government. During its days it has produced many ulamaks as well as politicians.
