The building is cube-shaped – 54 times 54 metres – and rises to a height of 43 metres. It is sliced through by a curved “museum street”, to which the public has access without admission charge. Forming a logistical pivot, a spiral staircase punctuates the mid-point of the “street” and, on payment of an entrance fee, affords full access to the various galleries and facilities.
Besides its galleries, ARoS contains a Junior Museum: an exciting experiential zone for children and young people who want to learn more about art in untraditional and hands-on ways.
With the opening of ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum in the heart of Århus, the museum has occupied its third building. After modest beginnings in a loft room in the newly built Town Hall, Aarhus Kunstmuseum took possession of its first purpose-built building in 1877. This remained the museum’s home until the move to the building in Vennelystparken in 1967.
The Royal Library in Copenhagen (Danish: Det Kongelige Bibliotek) is the national library of Denmark and the largest and most important library of Scandinavia[citation needed].
It contains many historical treasures; all works that have been printed in Denmark since the 17th century are deposited there.
The library was founded around 1648 by King Frederik III who seeded it with a comprehensive collection of European works. It was opened to the public in 1793.
