The picture is what is uncommonly known as a "Pilot's Halo". (Ask any pilot, most of them know what it is.) It is a perfect circle rainbow on top of the clouds with the shadow of the airplane you are in centered in the rainbow. Most people don't know to look for it, but anytime you can see the shadow of the plane on the clouds below, you should be able to see the "Halo".

I think the strange colours are due to polarising artefacts looking through that portion of the glass.
