I used to live at Strawberry in the late 60's + early 70's. The story about this structure is that somebody was going to buid a ski lodge on this location. As you can see they had just barely begun before they quit. Exactly why they quit, I don't remeber if I ever heard why.
David, thanks for the comments about your parents meeting in Capitola. Its a great place and my wife and I love spending time there. This winter scene was taken after a storm had passed and the sun had come out in the village.
Kalaupapa is a beautiful site, and Iʻm sure the people there are wonderful also. I plan on going to Molokaʻi this summer and hope to get to go to this wonderful place that probably holds so many memories. And that has an interesting history.

I remember it well. The pictures I took of our car covered in ice didn't turn out well enough to post.
I remember snow on the ground in Santa Monica in the early 70's too. I think it lasted an hour or two.
It's PinnAcles, with an "A". One of the most scenic parks I've ever hiked in (until I went to Yosemite, that is.)
